PRE AND POST BARIATRIC SURGERY

Bariatric Surgery is a medical procedure often recommended to patients who are categorized as “overweight” or “Obese.” Many people who are considering surgery or who have already undergone bariatric surgery struggle with binge eating disorder. Bariatric Surgery does not fix anyone’s relationship with food, and it is important that proper treatment is implemented to help one create a healthy relationship with food. It is also common for post bariatric patients to develop an eating disorder, and the importance of working on all emotions related to food and changes with food are imperative. There is also a lot of body image work and feelings around grief and loss that come up for some bariatric patients who notice a significant change in the way their body looks pre and post surgery.
