TRAUMA

Trauma refers to experiences that cause intense physical and psychological stress reactions. Trauma expert Dr. Gabor Mate defines trauma as “what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you.” When we experience a traumatic event, we often feel powerless, devalued, disconnected, and out of control. This can lead to symptoms such as mistrust of others, flashbacks, hypervigilance, shame, guilt, self-hatred, self-blame, dissociation, detachment and many others. You do not need a diagnosis of PTSD to benefit from trauma therapy.
